The Tailoring Process…
-
First off, CELEBRATE! Over the next few days contact me to get booked in for your first fitting. I take bookings over a year in advance, but I am the recommended tailoress by several bridal boutiques so please book early.
You’ll need to know of any major style changes you might like to make, or if you anticipate your gown being very large or small on you when you come to your first fitting.
-
Your first fitting will be booked 10 weeks prior to your wedding date, this allows enough time for me to work my tailoring magic and allows you flexibility to attend as many fittings as required. It is essential for you to have your bridal shoes and an idea of the undergarments which might work for you and your gown.
Second fitting will be booked on your first visit once the work required on your gown is established.
-
This is where the main pinning happens, you’ll be in your dress up to 45 mins, giving us time to chat through your visions for your final look.
I’ll talk you through every option available for your gown, pinning top to toe, advising on fit, comfort and any little extras, like bust cups and bustles.
An accurate cost and estimated amount of fitting will be given to you in this appointment.
-
Your gown will have had most of the alterations completed and will now be on route to the perfect fit.
During the second, and potentially third fittings I will be focusing on the details, this may be beading, lace details, boning or refining the final fit.
-
The tailoring will be complete, your gown will be steamed for you ready to take home, after you have tried your dress for a final time.
Alternately, you can take advantage of the Storage & Steam service which ensures your gown is stored correctly and steamed the day before your wedding. More info can be found in FAQ.
-
Costs for alterations will be quoted at fitting.
As a guide, most bridal gowns alterations will be approximately £275–£375 per dress, depending on the work undertaken. The cost of your alterations includes your gown being covered by insurance while at The Bobbin and also includes steaming.More extensive alterations and bespoke work such as major design changes or adding sleeves etc may increase costs up to £650+.
